Point defense gauntlets, also known as Jackal shield units, or an energy pavise are arm-held energy shields mainly used by the Kig-Yar serving in the Covenant for protection from enemy fire or close- to mid-range explosions. The point defense gauntlet was developed by the Covenant after they reverse-engineered Forerunner technology. The shields are approximately 1.22 meters (4 ft) in diameter. Jackal Energy Shield / Point Defense Gauntlet In-game variants:
As illustrated in the gallery below, the design of the Kig-Yar Point defense gauntlet has undergone numerous modifications over the years. Mega has released only one version, which seems to be modeled after the Halo: 3 gauntlet. This particular version, depicted in the third image below, is circular (as opposed to the oval shape of the Halo: CE version), features a single color, and includes two openings.
The first two images are excerpts from Dr. Halsey's journal, providing her insights and thoughts on the device known as point defense gauntlets.
The third image features a Mega Bloks Kig-Yar minor equipped with a blue energy shield.
The fourth image displays a Kig-Yar point defense gauntlet in the PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved, notable for being the only multi-colored version of the shield.
The fifth image, located in the center of the second row, illustrates how point defense gauntlets offer full body cover for a strategically positioned Jackal in Halo 3.
The sixth image depicts a Jackal taking cover behind a point defense gauntlet in Halo: Reach. This version of the shield is more bubble-shaped than previous versions and features only one cutout.
The seventh image showcases the point defense gauntlet in Halo 5: Guardians.
In Halo: Infinite, the gauntlet's design reverted to an oblong shape with two cutouts, as seen in the final image.
